Sustainable Building: Helping Our Environment

Sustainable, or "green" building, is meeting the needs of today, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

The basic premise of green building is the intent to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment.

There are many ways we can work towards this goal:

Efficiently using energy, water and other resources: Our optional solar panels and tankless water heaters are a good example in this category. We have an optional front yard landcaping upgrade that has been designed to use minimal water resources - this is especially important at a time when our State is possibly facing a fourth year of drought.

Protecting occupant health and improving indoor environmental quality: This is why we use low or no VOC paint and finishing products in our homes. Properly designed building envelopes, high-efficiency HVAC system upgrades and optional features such as a whole house fan will greatly improve the indoor comfort of the home, while conserving energy resources.

Materials efficiency: We ask that the lumber used in our homes come from forests that are certified to be sustainably managed, and when possible, transported minimal distances.

Waste reduction: We provide recycling containers at our jobsites during construction, and encourage our sub-contractors to use them.

While it costs more to build using sustainable practices, we feel that our environment is worth the investment. Ask about the upgrades we offer which are geared towards sustainability.
